The Centre for Oncology and Immunology is honored and proud to announce that our Co-Director (Scientific) – Prof. Tak Mak has been selected as the winner for the 2023 Pezcoller Foundation – AACR International Award for Extraordinary Achievement in Cancer Research.
This prestigious award was established in 1997 to annually recognize a scientist of international renown who has made a major scientific discovery in basic or translational cancer research.
Prof. Tak Mak is a pioneer in the genetics of immunology and cancer research. He is widely known for his landmark discovery of the T-cell receptor in 1984 and pioneering works including cloning of T cell antigen receptor genes and discovery of the function of the immune checkpoint protein, CTLA-4. His discoveries have led to important breakthroughs in cancer immunology and helped stimulate potential new advances in immunotherapies.
We are elated to share this joy with our friends and the community and to express our sincere gratitude for Prof. Tak Mak’s exceptional contributions in the fight against cancer.
