Postdoctoral Fellow
(Prof. Tracy McGaha Lab)

Job no: H03/2023/A1/UHN
Location: Hong Kong Science Park
Role type: Full time

Centre for Oncology and Immunology Limited

The long-term objective of the Centre for Oncology and Immunology is to employ novel functional screens, animal and cell models including organoids, immune-oncology approach, as well as advanced genomic and proteomic techniques down to single cell resolution to identify novel “druggable” cancer targets for hard-to-treat malignancies. The ultimate goal is to develop therapeutics against these targets and to conduct clinical trials evaluating these drugs along with biomarkers with an eye to their eventual commercialization worldwide. Success in this venture will address pressing unmet medical needs and establish Hong Kong as a leading hub of innovative anti-cancer and immuno-oncology drug development.

The position will focus on tumor microenvironment in GI and liver cancer under the direction of Prof. Tracy L. McGaha as part of a collaborative program between the University of Hong Kong and the University Health Network/Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (Canada). The successful candidates will work in close collaboration with the principal investigator’s scientific teams at the Centre for Oncology and Immunology and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to decipher myeloid/tumor interactions using high dimensional, spatially resolved approaches.

Job responsibilities:

Applicants are expected to contribute to collaborative research projects in discovery of cancer biomarkers using large scale multi-omics approach, organoid technology, and novel animal models, as well as anti-cancer or immuno-oncology drug development.

Qualifications and skills:

Applicant should have strong research background in Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering or Biological Science, preferably in Cancer Biology, Immunology, Immuno-oncology, Molecular Biology, Genomic, Proteomic, Metabolomic, Bioinformatics Studies, Single Cell Technology or Medicinal Chemistry.

Applicant should:

  • Possess a demonstrated track record of publishing academic research papers

  • Understanding and/or experience in CRISPR/Cas9 technology, high-throughput screening techniques, next generation sequencing, and single cell sequencing technologies

  • Experienced in molecular biology laboratory techniques and handling mammalian cell culture

  • Specialised research interest in multi-omics profiling, bioinformatics, cancer metabolism, medicinal chemistry, and drug discovery

  • Understanding and experience in drug sensitivity screen and identification of new drugs for personalized cancer immuno-therapy

  • Experienced in mouse models, xenograft models and biobanking

  • Experienced in animal handling technique

  • Experienced in clinical trial and establishing translation research infrastructure

Applicants should have a good command of written and spoken English, strong communication skills, and be self-motivated, hardworking and able to work well in an interdisciplinary team.

The appointees shall work in Hong Kong Science and Technology Park.
