Professor Carmen Wong Receives the National Natural Science Foundation of China Distinguished Young Scholars Fund 2024

The Centre for Oncology and Immunology (COI) is proud to announce that Prof Carmen Wong, one of our principal scientists, has been awarded the prestigious National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Distinguished Young Scholars Fund for 2024. This year, the NSFC expanded its eligibility criteria to include researchers from Hong Kong and Macao, and Prof Wong’s achievement signifies recognition of her as a national scientific talent. Notably, Prof Wong is one of seven professors from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) to have been honoured with this funding support.

Prof Wong's research focuses on understanding how various tumour microenvironmental factors enable liver cancer cells to evade immune surveillance and resist treatments. Prof Wong expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating, "I am deeply honoured to receive this award. It not only acknowledges our past achievements, but also provides significant support for our future research. It will enable us to push the boundaries of oncology and immunology, ultimately contributing to developing more effective treatments for liver cancer and better patient outcomes."
